PIANIST

Christopher Rocha is a sweet 12-year-old boy, who recently started middle school at Coral Gables Preparatory Academy. He began taking piano lessons at age 7, and discovered very soon after, the power of music to transform people’s lives. His main motivation for playing music is to inspire feelings of hope and love in others. He began taking piano lessons with one of the finest South Florida classical music instructors, Sahily Canovas, educated in Russia. At his short age, Christopher is proud to say he has participated in over 30 recitals, three of which he performed accompanied by a symphony orchestra. In 2019, he won a Mention of Honor with the Frost School of Music of University of Miami. He was semifinalist to the, YTBD Miami Dade Competition (Young Talents Big Dreams Competition). He won second Place of the Miami Music Teacher Association 2021 Competition, and he has been a proudly scholarship recipient of the Coral Gables Music Club since 2020. In April 2022, he was selected by the U.S. Chopin Foundation as one of 16 young pianists to perform in their annual recital “Chopin for All, Local Young Pianist.” In addition to his classical music performances, Christopher enjoys performing and singing other contemporary music genres, such as pop and rock, participating at local community events and festivals. He performed as the closing act for the 2021, Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, for the City of Coral Gables, by playing and singing Christmas carols, and at the 2022 Summer Miami Gardens Music Fest, playing and singing pop songs. When he is not playing piano, he enjoys playing sports, video games with friends, traveling with his parents and creating videos for his YouTube channel, “Christopher’s Cool Reviews.”
