Joel Chen, piano
Joel is 16. He is currently in 11th grade. He is a piano student of Dr. Anna Ouspenskaya since the fall of 2016. Joel won 1st place in Little Mozarts International Competition 2019 based on his Balanchivadze Piano Concerto No. 3, movement 3. He performed Clementi Sonatina Op. 36, No. 6, Mov. 1. at Carnegie Hall, NY for the Winner Concert of the competition. The same pieces also won him 2nd places at the Great Composer International Competition Series’s, The Music of Eastern Europe 2019, and the Masters of Sonata. He also won 1st place in the American Fine Arts Festival, 2020, with his Kabalevsky Piano Concerto No. 4, “Prague Concerto”, 1st Movement. He won Orpheus Classical Recording Project 2020. In 2022, he won 3rd prize for Knabe International Piano Concerto Competition with his Mendelssohn Piano Concerto No. 2., 1st Movement. He also won 2nd place for GCC the Art of Piano Competition. In 2023, he won 3rd place in the Best Mozart Performance with Concerto No. 22, 1st Movement, 2nd place in Glory International Competition, and Honorable Mention for American Music Talent Competition. In May 2023, he performed Rachmaninoff Prelude in G at Carnegie Hall. He won 1st place for American Fine Arts Festival International Concerto Competition 2023 with his Mozart Piano Concerto No. 22 and he played Beethoven Piano Sonata No. 5 in C Minor, Op 10, No. 1, Movement 1 at Carnegie Hall in November 2023. He also won 3rd place for the Best of Beethoven Competition 2023. Joel won honorable mention in the 2024 concerto festival of NVMTA playing Saints Saen Piano Concerto N0. 2, Movement 1. The same piece also earned him 1st place in Sempre Musick International Concerto Competition 2024 and he played with the orchestra in May 2024.
